Salmon Street Energy neighbors gather on Earth Day weekend.

On Sunday afternoon 10 households on a single block in SE Portland came together to discuss the Salmon Street Energy project, a proposed new thermal utility in the middle of our block, providing space heat and hot water from renewable sources.  Joining N2e staff and local neighbors were:

Zack Semke of Shapiro-Didway Landscape Architects, who designed the stormwater management system;

David Blindheim of Solarc Architecture and Engineering, who discussed ground source heat pumps, solar thermal panels and other technologies that can be used to supply the thermal demand on the block;

Aaron Harmon of Ball Janik, LLP, a LEED accredited real estate attorney who explained the process of creating a utility easement which will be required for the network of insulated pipes.

We were pleased with the strong attendance and show of interest from the residents.  Their questions to our guests demonstrated a good grasp of the concept and we're eager to involve them in the process.  There's a wonderful range of skills and interests represented on our single block!
